Question GPS Power Hookup

I was going to run the GPS power cables to the battery (under the gas tank and seat), but the mechanic at the dealership suggested instead to connect them behind the headlight to a connecter that is used to hookup heated grips. Has anyone done this and was it a straight forward hookup?

I hooked a USB power source to the heated grip connection behind the head light. It was fairly straight forward. I'm pretty sure everything was labelled behind the head light. Connecting here means you will only have power when the ignition switch is on and reducing the chance of killing your battery as apposed to connecting directly from your battery which will have power all the time.

I spliced into the heated grip wiring thereby leave the heated grip connection in tack. I wish I had splice into the heated grip wiring with a SAE 2 pin connector (instead of hard wiring as i did) thereby giving me more/easy flexibility to pug something else in.
